Maxi The Taxi Dog App

I’ve mentioned before that I allow my boys screen time, I call it, mommy’s sanity time. They enjoy watching other children playing with toys on YouTube.  I’ve also downloaded a few apps for them to play.  Most recently, I have downloaded Playing Forwards, the Maxi The Taxi Dog app.  This is a sponsored post, as usual, all of the thoughts and opinions are MY OWN.

Maxi The Taxi Dog app is educational and shares a great way of storytelling, exploring emotions and problem solving

This was developed from the classic books written by Bill Kroyer, published by Penguin, over 25 years ago.  This app has brought Maxi The Taxi Dog to life with the help of their award-winning Hollywood effects team.  Bringing 3D animation and augmented reality to help share the story!

Maxi is the dog, which you can customize the color of the doggies fur and bandanna color. We chose white for the fur because our real dog is white, and a blue collar because that’s the boys favorite color, at the moment.  You can also purchase extra tokens ($.99 for 25, $2.99 for 100 or $9.99 for 500) to customize a lot more, however you can still use the app and have fun with it without paying for anything more than the download price of $1.99.
You will also get to see the custodian, Tupa, from the museum.  The other character is the taxi driver Jim. They drive in their taxi along the beautifully depicted streets of New York City.

One part I love, is that you can listen to the story as well as reading it on the screen.

Which is perfect for us right now because Travis is in kindergarten and is learning his letters and phonics.  Seeing the words while they are being read aloud is a great tool to help him.

I also love that you can view the app in two different ways.

You can choose between augmented reality and 3D animation.  Maxi The Taxi Dog app is created to help support children’s social and emotional development through the beautiful stories it shares.

I tried playing by myself to check it out and see what it was all about.  Of course I had a hard time figuring it out.  After a few minutes I was able to play around a bit and hear some of the story, but because it took me “too long”,  my boys took it from me to show me how to “do it the right way.”  “Mom, mom that’s not how you do it, give it to me.”  And so it begins!

My boys were into it pretty quickly and the best part, I found them like this on the floor playing together with no yelling or screaming! They were working together and listening to the story.

As a mom who is very diligent about what my boys are taking in during screen time, this app is one I know I can trust and it is providing educational value as well.  As we all have heard by now, a key to a child’s success in school and in life, is learning about their emotions and how to understand them.  This app helps with that!
